The Brief
The design team required robust, contemporary seating that would:
- Complement a modern, architectural outdoor space
- Deliver the sought‑after corten steel aesthetic
- Withstand heavy public use and external conditions
- Offer a more cost‑effective and practical alternative to real corten steel
The Solution
Livingreen supplied its Terrace Furniture Range in a specialist corten steel effect finish, a bespoke option unique to Livingreen. Manufactured in high‑performance fibreglass, the furniture achieves the rich, patinated appearance of corten without the drawbacks typically associated with real steel.
By choosing fibreglass over genuine corten, Bristol Airport benefited from:
- Significantly reduced weight, easing installation and future repositioning
- Superior durability, with no risk of corrosion run‑off or staining
- Lower long‑term maintenance requirements
- Improved cost efficiency, without compromising on visual impact
Design & Collaboration
The space was designed by Clarissa Conner of Ambius, who integrated the Terrace range seamlessly into the wider landscape concept. The corten‑effect finish adds warmth and texture to the scheme, creating a welcoming environment for travellers while maintaining a clean, contemporary aesthetic.
The Result
The completed installation delivers a striking visual statement that elevates the airport’s outdoor seating areas. The furniture provides the character and depth of corten steel, paired with the performance benefits of fibreglass — a practical, durable solution ideally suited to a demanding public environment.
This project highlights Livingreen’s ability to offer innovative material solutions that balance design intent, performance, and value, making it an ideal choice for large‑scale commercial and transport settings.
